Yesterday, I was sitting with family watching all the coverage about Nelson Mandela on CNN after learning he had passed. As I watched, a few different emotions ran through me but most prominent was this idea that any and everything was possible. Like look at this man, who, after spending an ENTIRE GENERATION in prision, came out FORGAVE his oppressors. If he could do that…what can’t a person do in this world? That said, here are 6 inspiring quotes from Madiba to motivate you and honor his life, efforts and examples of greatness.
1)
“I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.”
2)
“There is no passion to be found playing small – in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living.”
3)
“Resentment is like drinking poison and then hoping it will kill your enemies.”
4)
Great anger and violence can never build a nation. We are striving to proceed in a manner and towards a result, which will ensure that all our people, both black and white, emerge as victors.” (Speech to European Parliament, 1990)
5)
“For to be free is not merely to cast off one’s chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others.” (From Long Walk to Freedom, 1995)
6)
“It always seems impossible until it’s done.”
