I already posted today but we have to talk about this one. In a world where President Barack Obama basically kisses the ground his wife walks on, we have other “world leaders” who have completely opposite thoughts about their wives…and presumably, women in general. Check out what Pres. Buhari said on national television when asked about what party his wife belongs to.
First, some context. Earlier this week, Aisha Buhari – the first lady of Nigeria – did an interview with the BBC and noted that she felt her husband’s administration was being hijacked by people trying to subvert the Presidents wishes. As the BBC article notes –
“The president does not know 45 out of 50 of the people he appointed and I don’t know them either, despite being his wife of 27 years,” she said.
Her decision to go public with her concerns will shock many people, but it shows the level of discontent with the president’s leadership, says the BBC’s Naziru Mikailu in the capital, Abuja.
Fast forward to earlier today – the President is at a press conference in Germany and is asked what party his wife belongs to. To which he replies:
“I don’t know which party my wife belongs to, but she belongs to my kitchen and my living room and the other room.”
Mallam Garba Shehu, the official spokesperson to the President, tweeted that the comment was meant to be humorous but most other people don’t see it that way (like me, for instance).
What’s your take – what do you think about Pres. Buhari’s comments?
