In major movie news, Lupita Nyong’o (who won an Oscar for her role in 12 Years A Slave) and David Oyelowo (who’s already picked up a Golden Globe nomination for his work in Selma), are set to star side by side in the movie adaption of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s book, Americanah. Details on the click.
Are you ready for ‘Americanah’ on the silver screen? The Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie novel, one of the New York Times Best Books of 2013, tells the story of Ifemelu and Obinze, two Nigerian lovers and their experiences – in life and love – emigrating to America and the United Kingdom, respectively. Lupita Nyongo, who secured the rights to make the movie this past summer, is set to play Ifemelu while David Oyelowo, who is coming off three major motion pictures – Selma, Intersellar and A Most Violent Year- will play Obinze.
The movie will be produced by Brad Pitt, via his Plan B production house, with Nyong’o and Andrea Calderwood serving as co-producers. Plan B also produced Selma so it will be the second time Oyelowo is on a project with Brad Pitt. ‘Americanah’ the film is currently looking for a writer and a director, with no release date set yet.
Gotta admit, looking forward to this one!
