Talk about exiting with the quickness. Just hours after the SuperEagles lost to France in the World Cup’s Round of 16, Keshi announced he was leaving to ‘face his family’ and Yobo announced he’s retiring. More on the click.
After the team’s loss to France – Paul Pogba’s scored a header in the 79th minute and Yobo scored an own goal to secure the 2-0 win for Les Bleus – both Keshi and Yobo made their announcements.
Keshi, who resigned once before (after Nigeria won the African Cup of Nations in 2011), will likely be heading to South Africa as he’s rumored to be brokering a coaching deal out there.
As for Yobo, he’s going to let the youngin’s shine now. He told BBC Sport –
‘This is it. I can look back on my career with great pride.’
‘I wanted to leave on a high for my country. Defeat by France was not the right way to go but I’m happy with all I’ve done for the national team.
‘It’s time to give a chance to other people to come through. Our football has a bright future and I am confident this team can achieve success sooner rather than later.’
Well wishes to them both.
What do you think about the developments and the future prospects of the team?
