Did Beyonce, who recently slayed instagram with her Ankara blazer and grown woman cleavage, really make a whole album influenced by the great Fela Kuti? That’s what her producer the Dream revealed in an entry on Genius.com. Details after the click.
Super Producer, The Dream dropped some insider knowledge about Beyonce and her album making process on RapGenius recently. For the super uptempo track, End of Time entry, The Dream revealed that the song was influenced by sounds like those from the legendary Fela Kuti and that in fact, she did a whole Fela-esque album before her second to last album, 4. His noted:
We did a whole Fela album that didn’t go up. It was right before we did 4. We did a whole different sounding thing, about twenty songs. She said she wanted to do something that sounds like Fela. That’s why there’s so much of that sound in the “End of Time.”
There’s always multiple albums being made. Most of the time we’re just being creative, period. We’re talking about B, somebody who sings all day long and somebody who writes all day long. There’s probably a hundred records just sitting around.
Amazing. Although I kind of hear the drums and Fela-ness in End of Time, which is posted below, the sound is wayyy more emphasized in her track, Grown Woman. Plus, her dance moves at the beginning of the End of Time performance and basically all through the second half of Grown Woman look like they are straight out of a club anywhere in West Africa, on a Saturday night. Peep both below, plus Bey’s latest IG photos in her hot ankara blazer:
