For the first time since her death, Former President Obasanjo revealed a few details of the untimely death of his wife, Stella Obasanjo, via his new book, My Watch. Former President Olusegun Obasanjo‘s controversial new autobiography, My Watch – launched just a week ago in Lagos – is full of revelations surrounding his presidency and personal life. Amongst the interesting reflections made by the Statesman is the one he made about the circumstances concerning his wife, Stella‘s, death. On page 240 of Volume 2 (It’s a 3 Volume book), he notes that he didn’t know Stella was going to Spain for a tummy tuck procedure to mark her 60th birthday. After she died on October 23, 2005, he decided to find out what really happened to her, writing:
“After the internment, I decided to look into the circumstances of her death. I found that part of her 60th birthday anniversary, which was unknown to me, was her operation for her tummy and her shape.”
Regarding the rumor’s that he had something to do with Stella’s passing, he noted:
“Before the verdict in Spain, I was unaware of what I came to hear later that I might have caused the death of my wife to sacrifice her for success in my job. That is how wicked and satanic some Nigerians can be in their rumours and mischief.”
Regarding what was done to the doctor implicated in Stella’s death, he stated:
“I instructed that the doctor and the clinic be prosecuted. The lost life cannot be brought back but the successful prosecution would prevent carelessness and loss of life in the future.”
The doctor, according to the former president, was made to pay damages, which was collected by Olu Obasanjo, Stella’s only son, and his license withdrawn.
