Congratulations are in order for the lovely Ethipian-born supermodel and humanitarian, Liya Kebede. It was just announced that she will be joining the CFDA – one of fashion’s most exclusive organizations. More after the click.
Big news for mom, model and humanitarian, Liya Kebede. The announcement came this week that she was admitted to the prestigious Council of Fashion Designers (the CFDA) amongst its new class of 30. The entrance process is significant – aspiring members have to apply with a resume, portfolio and letter of recommendation.
“These designers are not just uniquely talented, but they also represent, through their businesses, an important contribution to American economy and job creation,” said Steven Kolb, CEO of the CFDA, in a statement. In addition to hosting the CFDA Fashion Awards in New York each year, the CFDA offers programs that support professional development and scholarships in fashion design, like the CFDA Fashion Incubator and the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund, among several others.
Remember when Rihanna showed up to an awards show pretty much naked? It was for the CFDA – they gave her the Fashion ICON award. The organization is like the Academy of the fashion industry. Membership to it is by invitation only and since 2006, it’s been led by designer, Diane von Furstenburg.
Congrats Liya!
