Is posting on Twitter, IG or Facebook helping or hindering the careers of Nigerian musicians (and entertainers in general)? Osagie Alonge weighs in with examples from Don Jazzy, Wizkid, Beyonce and more. Watch the clip after the jump.
On the latest installment of #factsonly, Osagie Alonge takes on the issue of social media in the Nigerian music industry – whether it’s the only tool needed in brand building, who’s doing it right (Don Jazzy) and who’s not doing enough (Wizkid) and which platforms work the best for artists. Really interesting take on things; watch the video below:
My Take: I cosign with what Osagie’s points. Why do we continue to listen to and pay attention to anything 2face does? Not because he stays posting cute pictures with Annie. It’s because the man makes amazing music. Absolutely, social media should be used to enhance an artist’s career, not completely make an artist’s career. You still need to make quality music, do great shows, have great relationships with media, build your brand and your fanbase, etc. Instagramming your yansh will not make up for subpar work. lol #justsaying
What do you think? Is social media killing or helping Nigerian artists?
