Happy 2014, people! I took yesterday off to reflect (and do my hair, lol – new year, new look!) on 2013, what I loved about it, what I wanted to do differently, etc. And Giist specific – where I want this blog to go in 2014. Catch a few goals and reflections after the click.
In 2013, Giist had a pretty interesting journey, the climax of which was somewhere in June/July when I put it up for sale! That’s what happens when you lose touch with why you started something in the first place. So in 2014, Giist will (God willing, of course) return to its roots. By it’s roots, I mean why I started Giist – to connect people through information and entertainment. Young, fly, fresh Africans (and friends of Africa) who have one foot on the continent, and maybe one foot out. Not that no one else is welcome – we’ve got an open door policy ’round here – but because Giist fills that gap.
In Nov of 2013, I sort of got in a groove with posting on Giist and for 2014, I want to continue that. Ideally, it would be posting every day, multiple times a day. But I’ll under promise and say 1 post a day, 6 days a week. When I’m falling short, you guys catch me and call me out. (just don’t be rude; you know our people – like to call out folks all disrespectful and what-not lol)
Secondly, in 2014, Giist will feature more stories of individuals from the Giist community. Some of the most read stories here on Giist in the past few years were the posts from Farida about being a Corper and from Chibz, about moving to Nigeria. You guys liked those and I liked those so we will ahve more of that in 2014.
Finally, although I hear from people every now and again about what they read on Giist, be it retweets on Twitter or emails from folks, I want to see an increase in engagement. More comments, more conversation happening on social media, more conversation in general. I want Giist to be like the expressways I drove on when I went to Texas for a wedding – busy, multi directional, and yet convergent. Let’s talk more, about more stuff that’s relevant to our every day lives.
So there you have it – our goals for 2014 are:
1. At least a post per day/6 days a week
2. More stories about regular, amazing folks.
3. More engagement, more conversation.
What about you? What are your goals for 2014? Share them in the comments section below.
Bonus goal – we need more content from other places in West Africa other than Ghana and Nigeria. Love those two, but they are not the only countries in West A. lol Liberia, Sierra Leone, Togo, and everyone else, we need to see more of you. Another goal is to seek out more diverse country content. If you have some good sources – people, blogs or websites – contact me.
