SUMMARY:#HeinekenLFDW - Heineken Lagos Fashion and Design Week 2017
DESCRIPTION:Heineken Lagos Fashion and Design Week 2017 will be holding it’s inaugural new season Presentation at Red Door Gallery\, from 30th March – 2nd April 2017. The move not only brings #HeinekenLFDW in line with the global fashion calendar\, but also affords the designers featured\, more opportunities to maximise media and available distribution prospects. More pertinently\, it speaks to the many designers based in Africa who are already creating collections for both traditional fashion seasons of Spring/Summer and Autumn/Winter and are seeking a global audience and customer base for their brands. \nThe Presentation series is entitled ‘Identity’ and the nine designers featured\, have all to a greater or lesser extent previously traversed notions of identity\, modernity\, heritage and self-expression in their work. Each designer will be designated a space\, one in which they can distill these and other themes further\, engage directly with guests\, be they buyers or editors and most pertinently\, present their Autumn/Winter 2017 Collections. \nAmong the nine selected are AAKS\, Gozel Green\, Kelechi Odu\, Lisa Folawiyo\, Maki Oh\, Orange Culture\, Post Imperial\, Ré and Shem Paronelli. Collectively\, they are a snapshot of the verve\, innovation and creative ambitions seen across the Nigerian fashion industry. \n\n \n \n \n \n Gozel Green\n \n \n \n \n \n AAKS\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Re\n \n \n \n \n \n Kenneth Ize x Shem Parnonelli\n \n \n \n \n \n Post Imperial\n \n \n \n \n \n Maki Oh\n \n \n \n \n \n Lisa Folawiyo\n \n \n \n \n \n Kelechi Odu

SUMMARY:Rich Medina Presents: JUMP N FUNK - A tribute to FELA KUTI & all things AFROBEAT
DESCRIPTION:VIA BBE: Starting life as a small New York event aimed at raising awareness for Fela Kuti’s musical message\, Rich Medina’s Jump N Funk party has now been rocking dance-floors across the globe for over 15 years. Honouring Fela’s contribution to music as well as his political and cultural legacy\, Medina has made his events a platform to celebrate Afro-Life across the Black Diaspora. With guests such as Wunmi\, the cast of Fela! On Broadway\, Asiko and Antibalas providing captivating live performances\, Jump N Funk is so much more than a club night. \nIn creating this compilation to represent the spirit of his events\, Rich Medina has chosen an eclectic selection of undeniably afro-tinged\, unashamedly life-affirming music. With most tracks either referencing\, sampling or inspired by the great man\, the record also includes material by Fela himself\, as well as son Seun Kuti and long-time band member Tony Allen the inventor of the afrobeat set drum syncopation that is equally as notorious as Fela and his message… The album’s artwork has been lovingly created by Lemi Ghariokwu\, the fabled Nigerian artist who designed some of Fela’s most iconic covers. From the record’s sleeve to the music contained within\, Jump N Funk is a cultural artefact with one foot in the past\, the other in the future. An echo of Fela’s message: a reminder to celebrate\, to empower\, to progress.
