Amazing stuff. Here’s an excerpt from the article The Sun did on her:
How the high school beatmaker landed on one of the hottest albums of the year is a classic tale of a sample of her work landing in the right hands at the right time.
Wondagurl cut up a reggae-style beat she found on Sizzla’s Solid As A Rock and sent it to American rapper Travis Scott.
She had worked on his track called Uptown which Jay Z had also heard.
“I took it and I cut it up (and) started playing around. The more I built, I knew what I wanted,” the budding beatmaker told MTV.
“And after that, I knew I wanted to send it to Travis Scott because I wanted him and maybe Pusha T in it together.”
Instead, after Scott added his own bits and pieces, he played the track to Jay-Z.
“Travis said he was going to do some stuff on it and later on, a few days afterwards, he messaged me saying he was about to change my life,” Wondagurl explains.
“And then a few days later, he told me it was on Jay Z’s album.”
The aspiring producer who served an apprenticeship by studying YouTube videos of her hero Timbaland at work in the studio, has been making beats since she was nine and won a major talent competition in Canada last year.
Her parents insist she keeps her focus on finishing school and threaten to take her computer away if she slacks off.
But she has already become a role model online with many parents tweeting over the weekend that they would be showing their children her interview videos to motivate them to pursue their dreams.
Magna Carta Holy Grail is already No. 1 on iTunes and set to be one of the biggest selling albums of 2013.
