Have you ever just been craving your favorite African radio station and you were not in town to turn the radio on? (Like me, this weekend when I just wanted to hear what was happening in Lagos, as I was sitting at my desk at home in Jersey). If so, check out three apps for streaming African radio after the click.
Listening to radio stations from all over the world used to be pretty impossible; in fact, sometimes if the reception was bad, you couldn’t even get the station in your own city playing clearly! Thankfully though, now, with the right app on your smartphone, you can bump along to what’s on your favorite African station no matter where you are. Check out these three apps for streaming African radio now:
1. TuneIn Radio – This is by far my favorite radio app. I regularly tune in to the Beat 99.5, Cool FM and most of my favorite Naija radio stations with it and it has never disappointed. One cool new feature I noticed it has now is that you can pause the radio stream, go do what you need to do, and come back to hit play and continue where you left off. Of course, you can refresh and catch up with the live stream but if you want to make sure you didn’t miss a single second of the the stream, it’s super useful to be able to pause. The app is free, with a pro version available for 1 USD (about 168 Naira) that features no advertisements.

2. MyTunerRadio – MyTuner Radio features radio stations from over 120 different countries, with many of your favorite African stations also included. It has loads of interesting features, including a podcast functionality that allows you to stream some of your favorite shows in addition to live radio. Like TuneIn Radio, it has a paid for version that also removes advertisements.

3. UDR Radio – UnderDaRock Radio or UDR Radio (which I’m actually listening to right now, as I blog this) is a little different from the first two options in that it doesn’t give you an option of listening to live stations in different cities but it is its own station of African music, news and more. I think its cool because the music played and DJs featured are from all over (Africa and abroad) as are the news tidbits and updates. It also has a requests feature where you can make requests for songs right through the app, directly. Nice addition.
